Grant Applications

The following programs are granted by MSDHA and administered locally by the Village of Cassopolis.

NEP Program

Homeowner Neighborhood Enhancement Program (NEP) provides funding for exterior home repairs that improve the visual appearance of the neighborhood. Examples of eligible activities include siding, roofs, doors, windows, porches, and permanent landscaping. FUNDING IS LIMITED AND COMPETITIVE. All grants over $9,999 will result in a 5-year lien on the property.

You may qualify if:
  • Your house is located in the Village of Cassopolis.
  • Your household income is less than 120% Area Median Income (see chart below).
  • Your house is a homeowner occupied single-family home that is affixed to a permanent foundation.
  • You are current on your mortgage and taxes.
  • You have current homeowners insurance.
  • All of your utilities (water, gas, electric) are on.
  • You do not have any code violations.

If selected, homeowner must provide proof of: current payment status on mortgage/land contract payments, taxes, insurance, and verification of income. If selected, homeowner is responsible for obtaining quotes from state licensed & insured contractors. Additional documentation may be necessary.

Applications are due by May 31, 2024. Submit completed applications to Village Hall or email to hbrown@cassopolis-mi.us

MI-HOPE
MI-HOPE provides up to $25,000 per household for energy efficient upgrades such as roofs, exterior doors, windows, HVAC, and energy star rated appliances.

You may qualify if:
  • Your house is located in the Village of Cassopolis.
  • Your household income is less than 300% of federal poverty guidelines (chart below).
  • Your house is homeowner occupied.
  • You have owned your home for at least 1 year.
  • You have been affected by COVID-19 through either a reduction in income OR an increase in living expenses.
  • You're willing to have an in-home energy audit completed and acquire quotes as needed.

Documents you'll need handy to apply:
  • Identification (Driver's License, Passport, State Issued ID)
  • Proof of HOUSEHOLD income, includes income of all household residents over age 18 that are not full time students (pay statement w/ YTD earnings, most recent tax form, government benefit statement, child support history, retirement/pension statement)
  • Proof of homeownership (property deed, mortgage statement, or property tax statement)
  • Gas & electric bill
  • Current homeowners insurance
  • Current photo of home showing address
